Prayer for Becoming

Philippians 3:7–14 (ESV) 7

But whatever gain I had, I count as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith – 10that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. 12Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Prayer: concern early in the process

O God, You are the beginning and the end of all things, including me, my creator, my director, my destination. I am unfinished, and You invite me to participate in my completion. But I am dissatisfied with my present state, and afraid I’ll be stuck like this, so I rush to the end, to try to fix it, not recognizing the value of where you have me right now, the process you have begun, or the love you have already given me for the good of others. O God, You know what is good, what You made me for, even at this stage. Fill me with Your will, so my work is in harmony with Yours. Help me to let You work with my weaknesses. Help me to give You the things that trouble me, and take peace in knowing they are Yours. Thank you for giving me this life, that I may become who you made me to be.
